Catherine O'hara Reveals Details About Beetlejuice Sequel On Podcast

O'Hara reprises her role as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice sequel.

Catherine O'Hara, the renowned actress, is set to reprise her iconic role as Delia Deetz in the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 film, Beetlejuice. The sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, promises to bring back the old magic of the original movie, with O'Hara sharing insights on the project during a recent podcast interview.

One exciting revelation from O'Hara was the inclusion of the beloved song 'Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)' by Harry Belafonte in the new movie. Fans of the first film will recall the song's pivotal role in a memorable scene involving Delia and her dinner guests.

Director Tim Burton, known for his unique style and creativity, aimed to recapture the essence of the original Beetlejuice film with this sequel. O'Hara highlighted Burton's desire to return to a more carefree and playful filmmaking approach, reminiscent of his early days in the industry.

The sequel will see the return of original cast members Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, along with new additions such as Monica Bellucci and Jenna Ortega. O'Hara praised the talents of the new cast members, particularly highlighting Ortega's performance and describing her as a 'cool young woman.'

While plot details of the sequel remain closely guarded, it has been revealed that Ortega plays Lydia's daughter, named Astrid, and Bellucci portrays the wife of Beetlejuice, played by Keaton.

O'Hara expressed her excitement about reuniting with Ryder on set, noting the actress's timeless beauty. She also emphasized the fun and relaxed atmosphere during filming, attributing it to Burton's infectious humor and creativity.

With the release date set for September 6, fans of the original Beetlejuice film are eagerly anticipating the return of their favorite characters in this highly anticipated sequel. O'Hara, mindful of not spoiling the surprise for viewers, refrained from divulging further details about the plot.
