THE chances are you played Paul Kelly's unofficial Australian Christmas anthem How To Make Gravy sometime in the past week.

The story of Joe's lament from prison that he won't be home to make the gravy at the family Christmas lunch, even has a dedicated day, December 21, to commemorate the 1996 classic.

This year a host of Australian artists, including Newcastle's Catherine Britt, teamed up virtually to record a special COVID-safe cover of How To Make Gravy. Britt sang the line, "Just add flour, salt, a little red wine/ And don't forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang," from her Mayfield home.

Other artists to feature in the video were Kav Temperley, Troy Cassar-Daley, Liz Stringer, Pete Murray and Diesel.
