Cathedral Quarter Belfast fire - emergency services at scene

Firefighters are at the scene of a blaze in Belfast's busy Cathedral Quarter .

Crews were called at around 9pm on Saturday, September 21, after being alerted by staff at Muddlers' Club.

One witness said: "Restaurant staff at Muddlers Club noticed the fire and rang the fire service, the fire developed fairly quickly. Apparently the building is dilapidated."

The fire service confirmed they had just arrived at the scene of the blaze after getting the call to Donegall Street just before 9pm. There are four appliances and an aerial ladder platform at the scene.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said in the early hours of Sunday: "NIFRS responded to a fire in a derelict building on Donegall Street, Belfast at 20:56pm on 21 September 2019 evening.

"6 appliances attended the blaze and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control using firefighting jets.

"The incident is ongoing and 3 appliances will remain on site over the next few hours.

"Operations are ongoing and a further update will be issued in due course."
