Cathcart's Danish cafe Fylkir of Copenhagen announces shock closure

Fylkir of Copenhagen has today announced its shock closure, with the cafe serving customers for the final time this weekend.

The much-loved south side brunch spot, based on Newlands Road in Cathcart, is known for its famous 'smørrebrød' open-faced sandwiches and Scandinavian treats.

Family-run Fylkir has been trading for almost three years, with the owners now set for a return to Danish capital Copenhagen.

Posting on Facebook this morning, they said: "It’s with an enormous bag of mixed emotions that we’re announcing that this will be the last weekend we open our doors to Fylkir.

"It was far from an easy decision but Denmark has been calling for us and we’re ready to go home.

"Tusind tak for almost and incredible years! It’s been beyond our wildest expectations. We never imagined that our tiny cafe would become such a big part of the beginning of Glasgow’s brunch scene. For that we’re incredibly proud and grateful.

"We want to give a HUGE thanks and shoutout to the best team, our suppliers (you never let us down!) and of course.. all of you wonderful people and loyal customers.

"I hope one day we will meet again... in Copenhagen.

"Here’s to the final weekend - let’s have it."
