Catford crash: Cyclist dies outside station after collision involving lorry

A cyclist has died after a crash outside a south-east London train station.

Police were called to Ravensbourne Park, outside Catford station, just after 6.30am on Wednesday after receiving reports of a collision between a lorry and a cyclist.

The cyclist, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin is yet to be informed.

There have been no arrests. The Met said "the lorry stopped a short while later".

Road closures are also in place.

Eyewitness Rosian Hewitt-Newell told the Standard: "The poor man. He was laying in the road for a good five minutes and no one checked to see if he was breathing.

"Out of respect for him and his family no-one took any photographs.

"My prayers are with his family and friends, it was not nice looking at him."

It happened just yards from another serious collision in the area on Tuesday morning. A man was injured after being hit by a car in a suspected hit and run in Catford Road's junction with Canadian Avenue.
