She was nominated for an Oscar for her 2015 role in Carol – but Cate Blanchett has revealed that in one scene, she wasn’t actually acting at all.
Cate got sloshed on martinis in a boozy bar scene – and admits she has a hole in her memory from the shoot.
With her character required to sink martinis with co-star Sarah Paulson, the pair were introduced to a new Hollywood term by the film’s art department.
“A wonderful props guy said: ‘Do you want to go hot?’” recalls Cate. “If somebody says to you: ‘Do you want to go hot?’ You’ve got to say: ‘Yes. Absolutely!’
“So we went ‘hot’. What we learnt was the alcohol would be real.”
Cate – chatting to co-star Sarah during W magazine’s livestream – joked how she mispronounces a name during the scene, which saw the pair top up martinis while eating olives from their glasses.
“It was really bad,” she laughs.
“There was no acting required. I can’t remember later.”

The actors also reminisced fondly about the costume department’s supply of “mirkins” for the lesbian romcom – wigs, except not for the head.
This prompted Cate, 51, to reveal she once dyed her pubic hair blue.
