Catchpoint: How does it work? How do I watch? Everything you need to know about Paddy McGuinness' new 'chaotic' gameshow

If you thought your Saturday night was missing a whacky gameshow then fear not…because BBC One is about to deliver.

Hosted by Paddy McGuinness, Catchpoint requires both physical and mental skills if contestants want to to walk away with the cash prize.

The premise of the show is simple, but the intricate challenges mean players won’t find it easy as they're challenged with tough tasks at the same time as being tested on their general knowledge.

As the game show gets ready to make its BBC debut, here’s everything you need to know about Catchpoint:

Host: Paddy McGuinness is in charge of the fun gameshow (BBC/12 Yard/Graeme Hunter)

What is Catchpoint?

The energetic gameshow has one simple rule – don’t drop the ball! The studio back wall is lined with LED screens that will reveal a question to the players. Above all these screens, there are ceiling trapdoors ready to drop a ball into the path of the contestant. But they will only have the chance to catch it if they get the answer right.

So, in summary, the real hard work begins when the player gets the answer right. Players will need fast reactions to make sure they catch the bouncy ball and stay in the game. The players who make it through every round successfully will take home the cash prize.

Who is hosting Catchpoint?

Soon-to-be Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness is in the driving seat, and described the show as having a “chaotic element”.

Explaining why he took the role, McGuiness said he is attracted to shows that “allow him to wander about chatting and going off piste”.

The 45-year-old admitted that he wouldn’t be very good as a contestant on the show because his one time trying to catch the ball ended in disaster.

“The first time I did it I walked on set giving it Charlie Big Time,” he said. “I went: ‘Yeah, go on, let one go’ and I just totally missed it. That was a good start and was when I realised it’s more difficult than it looks.”

When is Catchpoint on?

Catchpoint starts Saturday, March 23 at 6.50pm on BBC One. The half-hour episodes air weekly for six weeks.
