Catching up with Guilherme Bomba ahead of his Bellator 229 bout against Derek Anderson

A loser of two out of his last three MMA bouts, Guilherme Bomba will look to get back in the win column Friday night at Bellator 229.

The Brazilian welterweight Bomba (10-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) takes on Derek Anderson (15-3 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) on the post-lim portion of the card.

The event takes place at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. The main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Before he faces off against Derek Anderson, catch up with Guilherme Bomba by reading MMA Junkie’s Q&A transcript below:

Can you talk about your Bellator career up to this point?

I believe that my game is much improved since my last bout. I learned a lot from that. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the win, but I had a war in the cage with David Rickels. I’ve been in Bellator for more than three years now. Now, I’ve been given the opportunity to face Derek Anderson, who has a good name and great wins in the organization. He’s very tough. It’s the perfect challenge for me at this point in my career.

How do you see the bout against Derek Anderson going? Can you talk about your preparation?

We know each other’s weak and strong points. I know he has jiu-jitsu skills, but, of course, I feel mine are better. He’s not dumb – today there are no dumb guys in MMA. And I’m also ready to strike with him in case I don’t land a takedown. I train kickboxing with Joe Schilling, one of the world’s best kickboxers. My jiu-jitsu coach is Romulo Barral. I trained plenty for this fight. My goal is to show up and have a true MMA bout. I won’t show up to only strike, or only grapple. I’m going to do mixed martial arts, which is everything.

Plans for the future?

I believe that beating Derek would bring me new respect within our weight class. My complete focus is on this fight, and nothing more. I’m very well trained. I’ve been training for over 10 months. I didn’t stop after my last fight. Now, I just have to show up and do my job.
