Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins – review

Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire (Hunger Games, Book 2)

After returning home from the torture of the 74th Hunger Games as victor along with Peeta, Katniss thinks she will be returning to her normal life as a seventeen year old girl who hunts in the woods, however, she is wrong. She will further have to endure the Victory Tour and a shocking realisation that as the victor she will have to mentor the next tributes of District twelve.

After being moved out of the little house she shared with her family and into the Victor's Village, Katniss and Peeta begin the dreaded Victory Tour. They are required to visit each District, paying their respects to the fallen tributes' families. However, that includes visiting District eleven, Rue's district. Will she be able to cope? As the Victory Tour comes to an end the weight is lifted off Katniss's shoulders, that is, until, the Quarter Quell is announced. A special Hunger Games requiring victors from each District to be chosen and to return to the arena. That means that Katniss will definitely be returning to the arena, but who with? Peeta or Haymitch?

But Katniss could never have expected what was going to happen to her next. Alliances are formed, friends lost and districts destroyed as the second instalment of this trilogy comes to an end. But what will happen to Katniss and her family and friends? Will she survive a second round in the arena where everything is not as it seems…?

I was gripped by this book all the way through, there was not a single moment where I was bored of the storyline. Throughout the book there were many unexpected twists and turns in the storyline. The final chapter was the most surprising, you would have never expected what was going to happen! This intriguing book had me glued to it until the last page! I would definitely recommend that you read it!
