Catch-up TV guide: from Red Oaks to Hunted

TV: Red Oaks

Amazon’s pilot scheme – where viewers watch single episodes and vote on whether they should receive a full series – has had a patchy record to date, with the likes of Transparent balanced out by duds such as Hand Of God. Thankfully, coming-of-age comedy Red Oaks looks set to be welcomed into the former camp. Chronicling the misadventures of a young tennis player (Submarine’s Craig Roberts) working in a snooty country club in the 80s, it balances a nostalgia for the teen comedies of John Hughes with the arch wit of Wes Anderson or Whit Stillman. The full series is available from Friday.

Audio: My Dad Wrote A Porno

Radio 1’s Alice Levine and writer James Cooper join their pal Jamie Morton for a new podcast series, starting Monday, in which the latter reads chapters from the pornographic novel penned by his father. Belinda Blinked follows the titular businesswoman – who works in the “pots and pans” industry – as she enacts the shoddily constructed sexual fantasies of a 60-year-old man. Unsurprisingly, it provides plenty of material for Alice and co’s slightly hysterical analysis.

Audio: Spotify Shows

The great streaming arms race trundles on. The latest to join the fray? Spotify, which earlier this year added a “Shows” tab to its interface on most devices. There you can find both audio and video shows, including webseries, clips and full episodes of traditional TV series. It is still clearly in its early stages – the library is limited when compared with, say, Netflix – but there are a few interesting titbits already available, including Adult Swim series The Venture Bros and Tim And Eric: Awesome Show, Great Job, and clips from Comedy Central’s stand-up archive.

Video: Junun

Hitting arty streaming site Mubi on Friday is Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest movie to feature Jonny Greenwood. But this time, the composer on There Will Be Blood, The Master and Inherent Vice is the subject, not soundtracker. In February, Anderson travelled with Radiohead’s guitarist to a 15th-century fort in Rajasthan, India to film a collaboration between Greenwood, local musicians and Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur to make Ben Tzur’s album Junun, which means “madness of love”.

TV: Hunted

Five weeks in, Hunted is proving as gripping as its high-concept premise – members of the public try to go off grid while a team of security experts hunt them down – indicated. Our current favourite escapees? Emily and Lauren, forever on the verge of being caught thanks to the former’s ineptitude. Catch the most recent episodes via All 4.
