TV: Public Morals
Created by and starring Edward Burns, this new TNT series is a diverting period affair, set in 1960s New York and concentrating on the doings of the police department’s public morals division. Sounds saucy, right? Sure enough, these intrepid cozzers often find themselves in compromising situations. And they don’t always make their excuses and leave. Because where would be the fun in that?
Video: Searching For Spitman
What to make of this bizarre, disturbing Vice documentary? Is there really a man called Spitman who has spent the last decade wandering the estates of west London, offering the area’s skint youths money to perform fetishistic acts for his gratification? Where’s his cash coming from? Is he exploiting these youngsters or are they exploiting him? None of these questions are really answered in the film, but prepare for a queasy slice of urban ennui.
Podcast: Pop Culture Continuum
Nerds! We got ’em. This engaging podcast sees self-confessed nerds John and Pat get together and chat about whatever takes their fancy. We’d recommend skipping straight to Episode 125, a funny, irresistibly spoddy chat about the relative merits of the 1990 and 2014 Silver Surfers.
TV: The Walking Dead
Whod’ve thunk it, but surviving the zombie apocalypse looks to be a hugely depressing endeavour. Rick Grimes and co have cried and scowled their way through five seasons of necrotic travails, and with spinoff series Fear The Walking Dead airing soon on AMC (on BT in the UK), Sky has lumped all five seasons on its on-demand service. With no narrative end in sight, it can feel like a thankless slog. But on a good day, few shows can touch it for sheer dramatic heft.

TV: Narcos
General Augusto Pinochet was as tough on drug dealers as he was on protest singers. But his wholesale slaughter of coke slingers in the late 80s had huge knock-on effects. A single Chilean producer survived his attentions and, finding himself with a monopoly, reached out to a Colombian hustler called Pablo Escobar. This new drama explores the rise and fall of the King Of Cocaine, as seen through the eyes of a DEA agent. It takes a while to grind into gear but eventually blossoms into a grubbily gripping thriller, which takes in the corruption of Miami and Reagan’s war on drugs on its way to its inevitably bloody climax.
