Mr Robot

Elliot Alderson is a brilliant cybersecurity engineer. He’s also battling severe depression, is consumed by contempt for the mind-numbing initiatives of modern day consumerism, and has just been recruited to a vigilante hacker gang – fsociety – by Christian Slater’s mysterious Mr Robot. Premiering on Amazon Prime over here (all 10 episodes of the first series will be available to stream and download from Friday), Sam Esmail’s superb tech-thriller follows Elliot as he is hauled into a world where virtual warfare is threatening to bring cold-blooded capitalism to its knees.

Future Of Fashion With Alexa Chung

When Alexa Chung first came to public notice, she was performing abstract pop star interrogations on Popworld 2.0 in the mid-00s. These days, she spends most of her time silently staring out of the pages of glossy magazines, so it’s nice to hear her talk again. She fronts this six-part British Vogue-made series (Chung is a contributing editor at the magazine), which focuses on the facets of Britain’s £26bn fashion industry we don’t usually see. You can catch up with episodes so far – on topics including diversity, business and access – on Vogue’s YouTube channel.

The Redemption Of The Devil

Jesse Hughes is obsessed with weed, guns, rock‘n’roll and the girth and heft of his own penis. He screams “Suck my cock, motherfucker!” at motorists who displease him and rants about Charlton Heston being his president, which is unfortunate in the light of recent event in Oregon. He’s also a self-proclaimed conservative and a recently ordained priest, a development which he explains with the statement: “The Catholic church has found it worthy to pursue the notion of giving people other things to think about other than fucking little boys.” Yes, the Eagles Of Death Metal frontman is a complicated but engaging fella, and this documentary spends a year trying to get to the bottom of his various contradictions.

If you’re about to head off to university, here’s the kind of horror that awaits. If it’s receded into your past, just shudder at the memories.
