Catch up to our babies of the pandemic

2020 baby: Mum Tori Hales with baby, Alfie, born in September. Picture: Simone De Peak

Alfie Eric Hales came into this world on September 22 at John Hunter Hospital.

He was born in an emergency caesarian operation and has a heart condition. But his mum, Tori Hales, says, " I'd do it all again if I had to".

Eric and Tori's story is one of 11 "babies of the pandemic" stories in a feature in Weekender magazine inside your Newcastle Herald on Saturday.

The story was written by Lily Ray, herself a second-time mum in 2020.

The birthing experiences vary as they would at any time, but the preciousness of bringing life into the world in such a precarious year was not lost on any of them.

"I think we will value the small things more and not take for granted the idea that things will always remain much the same as they always have," says first-time mum Nathalie Levick.
