Catalytic converter thefts reported in Hermosa: police

A string of catalytic converter thefts were reported in Jan. 2020 in Hermosa on the Northwest Side. | Brian Powers

Chicago police are warning residents of three catalytic converter thefts reported in January in Hermosa on the Northwest Side.

In each incident, someone approached the rear of the vehicle then cut and removed the catalytic converter, Chicago police said in a community alert. In one theft, a witness saw a black Ford Mustang leaving the scene.

The thefts happened:

  • Between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Jan. 1, in the 4600 block of West Montana Street;
  • Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., between Jan. 8 and 9, in the 4500 block of West Deming Place; and
  • About 7 a.m. Jan, 9, in the 4300 block of West Parker Avenue.
