Catalans Dragons speedster set to sign new contract amid interest from Super League rivals

Tom Davies looks set to turn down interest from the UK to sign a new deal with Catalans Dragons.

Rugby League Live understands a number of Super League's top clubs have shown strong interest in the winger, who has been in outstanding form for the Dragons.

But the former Wigan Warriors winger looks set to extend his stay in Perpignan over a return to England.

The 24-year-old scored a very impressive 13 tries in 11 appearances last season and has backed that up with another string of strong performances this year, scoring four tries.

He is also second in Super League's metre-making chart, carrying for 861 metres. Only Wigan fullback Zak Hardaker has made more.

That form has seen Davies tipped by some to make the England side under his former Wigan coach Shaun Wane, though he has yet to be called up to his pool of players.

But Davies now looks set to extend his stay in France and continue to work under Steve McNamara.

It's a boost for the Dragons, who lost David Mead and Lewis Tierney from their three-quarter line last year.

Israel Folau's tie with the club also looks finished with the centre yet to return to the club due to family reasons.

As such, Davies' retention was key for the Dragons and their ability to tie him down will come with relief attached.

The likes of Alrix Da Costa, Sam Kasiano and Josh Drinkwater are also off contract with the Dragons.
