Cat travels from Manchester for 80 miles sat on car's axle...vets are now searching for its owner

A cat managed to travel more than 80 miles from Manchester to Cumbria on the axle of a car wheel.

The driver of the car was shocked to see the cat's tail poking out from the wheel arch when it pulled up outside a shop named Biketreks in Ings,Windermere.

It is believed the moggy was sat under the car for the entire 90 minute journey.

The cat was brought to safety at Oakhill Vets, on Lake Road, also in Windermere, on Monday afternoon.

Pictures of the cat have been shared on the vet's Facebook page in an appeal to try and find its owner back in Manchester.

He is thought to be aged four to five months old and has black fur.

The exact location of where the car travelled from is not known, apart from it was at a location in central Manchester.

Claire Capstick, veterinary nurse, said: "He came into Cumbria on a car axle which came from Manchester.

"Somebody pulled up at a shop, they saw a tail on the axle of a wheel.

"The person who brought him in wasn't the driver."

She added: "He is lovely, friendly male cat, approximately four to five months old."

Claire said this is not the first time they have taken in a cat which has strayed under a car.

The surgery once took in a kitten which travelled on a lorry wheel arch all the way from the south of England.

They re-homed the kitten in Cumbria as no owner came forward.

Anybody who knows the owner of the cat can contact the Oakhill Vets on vets@oakhillvetgroup.co.uk.
