A cat abandoned at a Scots country park was so "terrified" by the ordeal, it took over two hours to catch her.
A member of the public spotted a woman driving into Dams to Darnley Country Park at around 8.45am on Wednesday, June 1.
At the car park, she opened the boot of her metallic red Mazda SUV, before placing the female tabby down and driving away.
The woman has been described as in her 30s with dark hair. Her car also had dents on the door on the driver's side of the vehicle.
Once the Scottish SPCA were alerted, it took them over two hours to catch the feline who was left "terrified" after being abandoned.
Chief Inspector Laura McIntyre said: “They had to use a combination of a net, cat traps and a crate to contain the animal.
“The cat was so distressed that she was running around uncontrollably and, in an area with cars and dog walkers, this story could have had a much sadder outcome had we not been alerted.
“The person who let the cat go at that location didn't give the animal any chance of being found.
If the member of the public hadn’t spotted the woman in the act no one would have noticed the cat was there.
“We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal.
"The cat has been caused a great deal of unnecessary distress by this person’s actions."
Thankfully, the cat is now in the care of one of the Scottish SPCA's animal and rehoming centres received the care she needs.
