Cat shelter urges people to adopt a pet as it's forced to close over virus fears

A cats rescue shelter has urged the public to adopt a pet as it faces imminent closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.

They have said the animals may need to be put into cages if homes cannot be found.

The Arbroath and Central Angus Cats Protection Centre will close from Monday.

A spokesperson for the rescue shelter said that without "forever homes" the cats would need to be transferred to a shelter in Glasgow.

A spokesperson said: “Once there, they will have to remain in cages until the situation changes.

“We are very keen that these cats do not have to face that unknown future and are appealing for homes for them.

“If you are considering getting a cat in the near future, perhaps you can bring your plans forward. Details of all these lovely cats can be found on our website.“

Among the cats needing homes are a pair of grey felines, an indoor female cat and an elderly cat, STV reported.

The cats are not the first animals to be impacted by coronavirus, Gorgie City Farm has appealed for help to provide for its animals with potential visitors stuck at home.
