Cat rescued after getting trapped at the top of 30ft pole in South Shields

A curious cat had a close shave when he got stuck on top of a 30ft-high telegraph pole while enjoying the sunshine.

The mischievous moggy was brought to safety after residents in South Shields saw him being bullied by magpies, who were swooping down towards him.

After attempts to coax the furry feline down with treats proved futile, a brave rescuer used a ladder to reach him.

The puss was greeted with hugs when he was brought back to ground level safely.

The cat wasn't the only creature to let curiosity get the better of it this week.

Nothumbria Police released footage of a deer seen wandering through the Bigg Market in Newcastle, and last week there were reports of a seal spotted in the River Tyne near the Millennium bridge.

Experts have said wildlife has been able to be bolder than usual due to the reduced levels of human activity during the coronavirus lockdown.

Though in the case of the curious cat, we're not so sure.
