Cat recruited by police gets his claws into criminals with 'purrfect' training

It's the purrfect story for cat lovers everywhere - a moggy based in a top secret division that's trained to get its claws into criminals.

While most people regard dogs as the ultimate search companion, New Zealand Police have announced the recruitment of Arnold, a feline that goes through daily training and is a specialist in catching "purr-petrators" in the act.

The New Zealand Herald, quoting a Facebook post about the puss, said: "You will have heard about our Police Dog Section, but have you heard the whiskers about our Secret Cat Division?

"For the cat lovers out there, meet Arnold – our Specialist Search Cat and latest recruit.
Arnold's trainer (whose identity we have to keep top-secret) has trained him to do all kinds of special tricks – he can even jump through hoops!"

It added that it was hoped the news about Arnold would leave "your family feline a little better this lockdown".
