Cat 'put to sleep' after being found 'very sick' in Drumcondra, Dublin despite best efforts from heroic woman to save her

A heartbreaking post put up by a heroic woman on a local Facebook group revealed that a cat she had found in very poor condition in north Dublin "had to be put to sleep".

Maria Martin found the little cat at the top of Richmond Road early on Thursday morning.

She said: "I found the cat at around 9am. It was beside Tolka Park football grounds.

"It was very sick. I took it to Fairview veterinary hospital but it was very ill and had to be put to sleep.

"Just by chance, I was on my way to the veterinary hospital anyway. I put the poor cat, a female - definitely a domestic sweet girl - into my car and took her with me."

Maria said that she buried the animal in her backyard where she has a cat memorial garden but wants to find the owner.

She added: "I know if it was me who owned her I'd like to know what happened if I was missing her.

"I just hope may be I can give someone peace of mind that in the end she went with peace and was cared for.

"If anyone recognizes recognizes this cat or if you know who owned it could you pm me."
