Cat owner convinced pet is responding to them with a Northern Irish accent

When home alone with our pets, we can't help talking to them as if they really understand what we're saying.

One man from Northern Ireland was recently doing just this, chatting to his cat, when he noticed something rather amusing.

The cat seemed to be responding to the owner's comments - but it gets even more bizarre.

Ian Allen recorded himself speaking to his cat and joked that the feline's meows sound like he has a Northern Irish accent, reports Belfast Live.

In the clip, Ian asks the cat if he's a good boy. The black cat meows and it sounds like he's saying 'aye'.

The 40-year-old sent the video to his brother Michael who liked it so much he shared it on social media.

In a post on Twitter, he wrote: "I swear my brother's cat has a Northern Ireland accent. Aye."

The tweet has since gone viral, with the video garnering over 216,000 views.

More than 14,000 people have liked the video with thousands of retweets and replies.

Many people commented to share their thoughts as well as the quirky things their pets do.

One person said: "My cat speaks like Helena Bonham Carter aka Princess Margaret in The Crown."

Another replied: "I need this cat. Give me this cat. Or there will be consequences."

A third wrote: "This is too funny."

"Omg this is the best thing I’ve ever seen," added someone else.
