Cat named Bazooka weighing 35lbs finally finds forever home after starting diet

A cat named Bazooka has finally found his forever home after starting his weight-loss journey.

The fluffball, tipping the scales at almost three stone, was taken into care after his owner died.

His carers at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Belfast believe his enormous size is due to the fact his owner had dementia - and constantly refilled his bowl with food.

And, quite clearly, Bazooka gladly gobbled down his extra grub.

Now, after starting his weight-loss journey, the ginger moggy has found a new home.

The SPCA took to Instagram to share adorable images of Bazooka, captioned: "That’s one big boy! (35lbs big!) Bazooka arrived at the SPCA today where he‘ll receive some much needed medical care.

"Let’s all send our well wishes to Bazooka as he begins his weight loss journey! #bodypawsitive ."

Bazooka is one of the heaviest felines the shelter has seen and will now need now to shed half his body weight (17lb or 8kg) before reaching a healthy size.

Spokeswoman Darci Vanderslick said: “The process could take six months or longer, it really depends on how much exercise he is doing.

“With cats, it is very difficult to get them to lose weight so each pound is quite difficult but makes a huge difference to their overall health.

“We really want to approach Bazooka’s story out of love and compassion, because he was very much loved by his owner.”

Bazooka will continue with his diet and exercise plan when he moves in with his new family.

Last year, 'Britain's fattest cat' turned his life around after being placed on a strict diet and exercise plan

Four-year-old Paisley weighs in at a whopping 1st 7lbs (9.5kg), double the weight of a healthy cat, and went into a rescue home when her owner couldn't cope anymore

It's thought porky Paisley's massive bulk cames from being overfed by her previous owner, combined with a lack of exercise and poor diet, which saw her weight skyrocket.

She's started a vet-prescribed diet to help her beat the bulge and shift the pounds.
