Devoted cat owner Lesley Grant had given up all hope of seeing her precious pet Winston alive after he went missing over five weeks ago.
But on Saturday stunned Lesley received a phone call to let her know he had been found safe and well in a house just a few streets away.
Five weeks ago Winston had disappeared from the garden of their Girdle Toll home and despite Lesley, and her family and friends, trawling the streets in a desperate search, he was nowhere to be found.
And just as she had given up hope of finding her beloved boy, she got a phone call from the SSPCA.
"We couldn't believe it," said Lesley.
"Although you don't want to think the worst, time was going on and we were almost giving up when the phone call came in.
"A couple in Speyburn Place saw him in their garden and thought he looked starving so they gave him a tin of tuna.
"The next morning they thought they should contact the SSPCA to see if anyone had reported a cat missing and fortunately for us, Winston was micro-chipped and they could trace us."
And although Winston has lost around half his bodyweight, he seems content to stay indoors for now.
Lesley went on: "He was really thin, we reckon he had lost around half his body weight, but it is so good to have him home safe and sound.
"Andy and I were so happy that he is okay, we went round to their house with flowers and wine to thank them, we didn't know what else to do, we had almost given up hope, we are all over the moon."
