Cat-lover votes for pet cat Maximus on ballot paper in Ireland South elections

A cat-lover went to great lengths to purr-suade the public that their feline friend should be elected as Ireland South MEP.

The pet owner ignored all options on the lengthy ballot sheet, instead writing down the name of their cat, a Maximus C.W, representing the Feline Party.

They made their own stickers - complete with candidate name, party and pic - to fix to the official ballot paper, Cork Beo reports.

This spoiled ballot - although we reckon it was not so much spoiled as improved - was spotted by veteran politics watcher Alan Kinsella, who has a vast collection of sometimes weird and wonderful election posters, pamphlets, stickers and much more.

The curator of the popular @electionlit Twitter account posted this to his followers - and mysterious candidate Maximus found a few new fans.

As one Twitter commentator pointed out - "I'm OK with spoilt votes when they go to that level of effort".

Other social media fans said they would have definitely have voted for Maximus if he was on the official ballot.

The Feline Party may have missed out on getting an MEP - but there's always the general elections.
