Cat left with three legs after being hit by a car and left for dead

A cat is looking for his new home after losing a leg after being hit by a car.

Romeo the cat was living as a stray when he was hit by a car and suffered a broken back leg.

PDSA vets performed surgery before being taken to the Cats Protection’s Tyneside Adoption Centre.

The decision to amputate Romeo’s leg was made after x - rays had shown it was not healing properly and vets wanted to give him the best quality of life.

He is now up for adoption from The Tyneside Adoption Centre and is looking for a home without other pets and somewhere which has an enclosed garden so he can be kept safe.

The Tyneside Adoption Centre is part of Cats Protection’s national network which helps around 200,000 cats and kittens each year.

Centre Manager Emzi Frater said: “He’s such a loving boy, even when he was sore and uncomfortable he liked nothing better than to sit on a knee and put his paw on your hand.

Emzi added that Romeo needs to be rehomed somewhere that is quiet so he can fully recover from his injuries and operations: “Because he is still getting used to life on three legs, and while he builds up muscle strength, he is unable to jump or move as quickly as he once could.

“It wouldn’t be fair to introduce him to a busy home with many other pet interactions.”

If you are interested in adopting Romeo, or any other of the 40 cats in care at the Tyneside Adoption Centre you can ring 0191 653 1052, visit the centre which is open 11am-3pm (closed on Tuesdays) or go to https://www.cats.org.uk/tyneside to view any of them.
