Cat left needing stitches after being savagely attacked by seagulls

A cat needed stitches after being attacked by seagulls. Puss "Pudding" was almost hit by a bus as she ran across a road to escape the onslaught.

She was found walking with a bad limp and with a cut on her shoulder by Exeter bin crews and recycling staff, Devon Live reports. Now she is recovering from her ordeal after the crews raised £100 for treatment to her injuries.

Pudding adopted two adjacent depots in the city as her home a few years ago. At night she sleeps in the Devon County Council site, snug inside in a shelter issued by the Cats Protection Society.

But the puss also has a shelter outside Exeter City Council’s Oakwood House office next door where she gets plenty of attention from the bin crews and office staff, who feed and look after her. Recycling centre staff discovered her hiding in her shelter on Monday, July 3 following the bird attack.

They said she was in a lot of pain and it was initially feared she had broken her leg. Workers kept her safe until the Cats Protection Society could pick her up to check her over.

Staff from both depots spent an anxious day on Monday waiting for news, until at last receiving word that she had sustained no more than a flesh wound and had been stitched up and given antibiotics.

The Cats Protection Society said she was clearly a happy cat and could be returned to her shared Exton Road family. On Tuesday morning she was back sleeping in her box, recovering from her ordeal.

The City Council’s bin crews immediately set up a collection pot to pay for Pudding’s £100 treatment cost. It was fully funded by 9am that morning, with crews and office staff all chipping in.
