A cat has been left with a fractured jaw in two places after being subjected to a brutal attack in Co Down .
Kai was out in the Whitehill area of Bangor on Sunday afternoon, when he was beaten and had his mouth sliced on either side to give him a 'joker' type smile.
The ginger and white tom cat managed to make it home to his owner Tracy Beattie, who has been left devastated by the attack.
Calls to bring Finn's Law into Northern Ireland
Speaking to Belfast live she said: "I am disgusted and heartbroken that someone would do this to an animal.
"I just don't understand the mentality of someone who could do it, it is absolutely horrific.
"If you don't like cats that is fine just walk on, they are someone's babies and do not deserve that."
Tracy who is a mum of two, has six rescue cats in total.
On the day the attack took place, Tracy's mum had called around to see her for Mother's day.
She said: "I was making my mum a cup of tea at around 4:30pm when Kai came through the back window which I leave open for the cats.

"He came in and ran and hid behind a curtain in the living room which is really unlike him. My mum said she thought something was wrong with him and when I pulled back the curtain and he turned to look at me, you could just see the blood pouring from his mouth.
"My mum went into hysterics, it was an awful site. I thought he had been attacked by another animal at first and ran to get hot water and cotton pads to clear the blood.
"But it wouldn't stop and I called the out of hours service for the Jubilee vets in Newtownards.
"My daughter then came down the stairs, looked at him and pointed out that his mouth had been slashed on either side to look like the Joker."
The vet confirmed Tracy's worst fears that the attack on Kai was deliberate.
"When we got there the vet initially thought he had been knocked down by a car, and had tore at his lip and broke his jaw," Tracy said.

"However, after a closer examination the vet was convinced it had to have been done by a person because a car would have only caught one side, but the jaw had been broken on either side and now Kai has a metal plate to keep it in place."
Kai who was diagnosed with terminal cancer just before Christmas was unable to have a full anesthetic for his operation as there was a possibility he might not survive it.
But Kai is now home and expected to make a full recovery.
Tracy said: "Thankfully we have Kai home and he is on the mend, we have to feed him with a syringe at the minute but he is eating and getting stronger.
"He is still very shaky and this has mentally had an impact on him.

"I would like to thank everyone who has gotten in touch with their love, support and generosity after Petsni and Feed Me, Walk Me, Mind Me put Kai's ordeal up on Facebook.
"It has restored my faith in humanity. I know people have been offering to help cover vet fees and we are grateful but but that is not why we have went public, I just want to warn people so it doesn't happen again.
"If people want to donate I would urge them to give to Cat protection or Assisi Animal sanctuary to help protect cats.
"We have reported the incident to the police, I don't know if anything will come from it or we will catch them, but I just want people to be aware."
