Cat Deeley's message of love to pal Dec Donnelly after horror break-in attempt

Lorraine Kelly's replacement host Cat Deeley sent a message of support to her former SM:TV co star, Dec Donnelly, after his home was targeted for a break-in over the Easter weekend.

Cat, who starred on SM:TV alongside Dec and Ant McPartlin from 1990-2002, sent her love to the Saturday Night Takeaway star as she read out the news.

"Declan Donnelly has made front page news with reports burglars have targeted his home in the last few days," said Cat.

"Thankfully they fled the scene after the police arrived and Dec and his wife Ali were not disturbed, only realising something was amiss in the morning.

"We are sending them all our love," she added, grimacing at the worrying news.

Dec and Cat have been friends for more than 20 years and once got "married" in a spoof TV wedding with Mariah Carey as the maid of honour.

Met police swooped to the scene shortly before 1am after a 999 call, just as the thieves left the house.

It's understood the attempted burglars did not gain access to the £5million sprawling mansion, in which the couple have lived since 2006.

Forensic squads were dispatched to the location to sweep the area for evidence while police investigate.

CCTV from the family home and their neighbours has been taken for further analysis.

The Met Police released the following statement about the incident: “Police were called at approximately 00:40hrs to reports of an attempted burglary at a residential property.

“Officers attended. The suspects had left the scene prior to police arrival. There was no evidence that they had gained access to the property.

“Inquiries are ongoing. At this early stage, there have been no arrests.”

It's believed Dec and Ali were blissfully unaware of the almost break-in until the morning.

A source told The Sun: “The robbers couldn’t force the gates open and that’s what made them give up, and flee.

“Dec and Ali weren’t disturbed. The first they realised anything was amiss was in the morning.”

The Mirror reached out to Declan Donnelly's representatives and the MET police for further comment.
