Cat Deeley gets huge reaction as she fills in for Lorraine

The Easter weekend might be over, but with kids off school, plenty of people use this time of year for their first big break after Christmas - including lots of TV presenters of daily shows.

Lorraine Kelly is one such presenter, having seemingly booked this week off. In her stead is Cat Deeley, who has prompted quite the reaction across social media.

Celebrities certainly appeared to be excited at the prospect of a week of Deeley - not least Lorraine herself: "Top job," she wrote of Cat's performance on Twitter. "A delight to watch."

Dr Amir Khan, who appears as the show's medical expert, said: "I literally grew up on SMTV and CD:UK so being in the studio with Cat Deeley is like the coolest trip down memory lane!"

Sex Education and X Files star Gillian Anderson even got in on the act, writing: "Love your style, Cat Deeley!" The presenter was wearing a jumper from Anderson's Winser London collection.

Among viewers, the reaction was a little more mixed; many complained she was too high-energy or upbeat. "I love Cat Deeley but it’s all too much for me this morning," one wrote.

Another commented: "My issue with stand in presenters like Cat Deeley is the unnecessary laughing. Like everything is so hilarious. Haha, haha. It's so not needed [and] it starts to annoy … just be cool, calm and collected."

Others disagreed. One viewer said there was "Something very warm and comforting about seeing Cat Deeley on TV again. As if we're back in 2001 and the world isn't collapsing."

Finally, one said he wanted Deeley to stay permanently: "It's so refreshing to have Cat Deeley back on our screens … hopefully here to stay."

Deeley is covering for Lorraine until the end of the week. Next week, Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh will be in the presenter's chair as Lorraine enjoys the second of her two weeks off. She'll be back in her usual spot from 9am until 10am each weekday morning from April 19.
