Greater Manchester Police says one car hit a lamppost on Bury Road.

Two fire engines from Bolton attended the incident, where they found the car 'on its side', but all of its occupants had luckily managed to get out of the vehicle.

A specialist firefighter treated one person at the scene, with no other injuries reported.

No criminal activity took place, GMP confirmed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 10.15pm last night (Tuesday, January 11), two fire engines from Bolton Central fire station attended a road traffic collision on Bury Road, Bolton, involving one vehicle on its side.

“All occupants were clear of the vehicle when crews arrived, and one person was treated at the scene by a GMFRS trauma technician.

"Firefighters made the vehicle and roadway safe and were in attendance for around half an hour.”

Police closed part of Bury Road while the scene was cleared.

In a post on Twitter at 10.49pm, a Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) spokesperson wrote: "ROAD CLOSED: A579 Bury Road, Bolton between Girton Street and Blenheim Road including eastbound on Crompton Way.

"This is due to an RTC. If you're heading this way, please seek an alternative route."

A further TfGM tweet at 11.09pm added: "UPDATE: Ongoing police incident.

"Road now back open but still partially blocked. Please approach with caution."
