Casualty rescued from water by emergency services in Lisburn

A male casualty has been rescued from the River Lagan in Lisburn.

Emergency services were called to Mill Street in the city at 5.02pm on Saturday in order to assist with rescuing a male who had fallen into the water close to the former Hilden Mill.

Specialist fire service rescue teams were sent to the scene, along with police and the ambulance service.

The male was rescued from the water and has been treated at the scene for their injuries by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known. It is also not known how he fell into water close to the derelict former industrial site.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called at 5.02pm to assist with the rescue of a male casualty from the water off Mill Street in Lisburn, close to the Hilden Mill.

"Four appliances were sent to the scene, which included two specialist rescue teams.

"The incident is ongoing but the casualty has been taken from the water and is being treated at the scene before he will be taken to hospital."
