Casualty rescued after car crashes into electrical substation

A casualty was rescued after a car crashed into an electric substation in Weston-super-Mare.

Firefighters from Weston and Yatton were called to Appledore shortly before 3pm on Sunday (June 23).

On arrival, they found a car had smashed into the wall of an electric substation, leaving bricks littering the road.

One casualty had been rescued before the arrival of fire crews, who stayed on the scene to make sure the vehicle was safe.

"At 2.54pm on June 23, crews from Weston and Yatton were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and substation on Appledore in Weston-super-Mare," a spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue said.

"One casualty was rescued prior to our arrival. Crews remained on scene to make the vehicle safe."

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said repairs would be carried out but added that customers' power supplies were not affected by the collision.

"The collision didn't disrupt power supplies because the car hit the wall of the substation," she said.

"Permanent repairs will be carried out at a later date.

"Customers' power supplies won't be impacted by the repairs."
