The episode sparked further melodrama off screen, as the BBC’s complaints department has confirmed that 111 people found the kiss “offensive”.

This is despite the fact that both men were fully clothed, and that the kiss aired well after the 9pm watershed.

It comes as Ofcom shockingly received complaints from Dancing On Ice viewers after a same-sex dance routine between 'H' Watkins and Matt Evers sparked fury among fans.

It was the first show to air a same sex dance, and 16 people were unable to cope with the concept of two men dancing.

Ofcom told  Metro in a statement: "The selection and pairing of contestants is an editorial matter for ITV.

"Our rules do not discriminate between opposite-sex and same-sex couples."

Aside from those 16, the dance went down well with viewers and the judges, particularly judge John Barrowman, who was moved to tears.

H and Matt received 25 points from the judges, which included John along with Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

John, who is gay, could be seen welling up as H and Matt whirled and twirled across the rink.
