Casualty airlifted to hospital after car bursts into flames in A9 horror crash

A person was airlifted to hospital following a horror crash on the A9 after a car burst into flames.

Emergency services raced to the serious smash on the A9 south of Inverness at around 4:45pm on Saturday evening.

The two-vehicle collision, involving a bus and a car, brought traffic to a standstill last night as the road was shut down in both directions.

Shocking pictures from the scene show smoke billowing from a car that is engulfed in flames.

A police spokesman said: “There are serious injuries involving the occupants of both vehicles.

“The injured parties have been taken to the relevant hospitals.”

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) confirmed one of the casualties was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Four fire crews were called in and it took until around 7:20pm to bring the flames under control.

The road remained closed for a number of hours. Traffic Scotland updated motorists the morning that the A9 was now fully reopened.
