Casualties cut from car as cops close Scots road following 'serious' crash

A Scots road has been closed by police following a "serious" crash.

Emergency services rushed to the incident on the A970 near Cunningsburgh in Shetland, with the route being shut while it is dealt with.

The crash involves two vehicles and was described as serious by cops.

The ambulance service and fire crews have also been called to the scene.

Three fire appliances are in attendance, two from Lerwick and one from Sandwick.

A spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed that they used cutting gear to free casualties from the vehicles.

They remain on-scene now.

Diversions have been put in place, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

Three people have been taken to hospital, the severity of their injuries are unknown at this time.

A Police Scotland statement said: "Officers are currently dealing with a serious road crash on A970 near Cunningsburgh Shetland which was reported to police at 3pm and involved two cars.

"The road is currently closed and diversions are in place."
