Castore founder drops huge hint amid Newcastle United kit deal talk

Castore founder Tom Beahon has dropped a huge hint about a possible link up with Newcastle United by confirming the brand "will be in the Premier League".

The premium sportswear brand has reportedly signed a deal with Newcastle worth £5million a year to take over the kits from next season.

They have also been linked with Wolves and Saracens and while Beahon wouldn't be drawn on individual deals, leaving the nature of their relationship open to question, he did confirm they will be a presence in the Premier League next season.

"We will be in the Premier League and we also will have a presence across all of the major European football leagues in the coming months and years," he told City AM.

The one-year Puma extension signed last year was widely viewed as a stop gap while the takeover was in the works, with the consortium hoping to tap up new revenue streams.

The Castore deal has come slightly from left-field and - if and when it's announced - will surely raise some interesting questions about the club's next steps from a commercial perspective.

Castore, which currently manufactures Rangers' kit, has a five-year deal with the Ibrox club and not only makes the club’s kit but also runs their retail operations.

Beahon told City AM they are open to working differently to established brands like Adidas and Puma, Newcastle's current manufacturers, which might even mean a similar deal at St James' Park.

"We want to partner with clubs that have a desire to digitise and premium-ise, and are knocking on the door of success," he said.
