The "Castle in the Sky" appeared on Monday morning, as a sea of clouds slightly parted to reveal the ruins of Takeda Castle, a national historical site in Asago, Hyogo Prefecture.
In the midst of a four-day weekend, lucky tourists at the observatory in the Ritsuunkyo valley could see the entire view of the ruins amid the clouds.
According to the Kobe Local Meteorological Office, the temperature early Monday morning in the Wadayamacho district of Asago dropped to 14.1 C, about the same as in early October. Many photographers and others flocked to the observatory before dawn. When the "Castle in the Sky" surfaced at dawn, many of them cheered.
"I searched on the internet because I wanted to see the 'Castle in the Sky,'" said a smiling man from Kakogawa in the prefecture, who came with his family. "The sea of clouds illuminated by the morning sun was so beautiful that it was worth the hard work climbing up here."
