Castle Douglas youngster raises more than £1,000 for Poppyscotland by scaling Screel

Eight-year-old Angus Ross raised more than £1,000 for charity by climbing Screel on Saturday.

Angus, from Castle Douglas, braved the wind and rain to help Poppyscotland as the coronavirus restrictions meant he couldn’t help dad Derek with the annual poppy tin collections.

Derek said: “It was really good, although he got drowned!

“So far, he’s raised £1,050, which is fantastic as he’d set out to raise £150.

“It took about four hours. It was a bit longer because, due to the weather, we put up the shelter and had a cup of tea.

“His friend Harvey Stalker came along as did Gregor Baird, who would normally have helped with the collection.

“We set off a bit earlier because of the forecast so there was some ringing round on Saturday morning to tell folk.

“It went well and he’s already set himself the challenge of climbing Criffel next year.”

There is still time to donate to Angus online at www.facebook.com/donate/713229215972920/

And donations can also be sent to Derek at 21 Cairnsmore Road, Castle Douglas DG7 1BN.
