Castle Douglas to hold circus carnival for Hallowe'en Spooktacular

Castle Douglas is going to be rather spooky next month.

The town’s development forum is working on plans for a Hallowe’en Spooktacular on October 31.

The group is working with artists in residence Martin Danziger and Kiera Manson from The Stove Network to produce the exciting event, with artists and members of the community encouraged to take part.

Martin and Kiera are planning to bring a series of circus skills workshops and events to Castle Douglas over the next 12 months, which will kick off with the Castle Douglas Hallowe’en Circus Carnival.

Martin said: “We are really excited about creating a circus Hallowe’en event with Castle Douglas and the chance to bring together professional circus performers, community groups and young people for a wild and spooky night.”

The fun will begin at 2pm on Market Hill with a Hallowe’en carnival featuring live performances, circus and craft workshops, walkabout performers and stalls.

That will be followed at 6pm by a mini parade to Lochside Park for the finale featuring professionals and community groups.

And to build excitement, Martin and Kiera will be running a series of free workshops on lantern making and circus skills during the October holidays.

Community groups are being encouraged to get involved in the spooktacular, be that through a themed walking performance for the parade or making decorations such as bunting, lanterns, costumes, headdresses or make-up.

Groups can work independently but Martin, Kiera and the development forum will be able to provide them with workshops to teach them skills, advise on sound systems and suggest music.

For updates and ways to get involved, keep an eye on Castle Douglas Development Forum’s social media channels.
