Castle Douglas set to turn back time with return of civic week celebrations

Castle Douglas’ civic celebrations are set to return in the summer after a two year break due to coronavirus.

Margaret Donohoue and Gill Gallacher, along with a working group of helpers, are organising a week of events.

And it will all kick-off on Saturday, July 23 with a festival featuring food, drink and music.

Local food and drink outlets have been invited to host a themed bar and there will also be a family area with a pottery workshop, an escape room and face painting.

Having grown tired of people saying Civic Week was always better in the old days, Margaret and Gill have decided to turn the clock back – all the way to the Jurassic era.

Some special dinosaur guests will be appearing at the festival and there will be a range of dinosaur-themed merchandise.

During the week there will also be a Great Jurassic Bake-off, a dinosaur film matinee, while the junior fun run will include a dinosaur dash.

Everyone is encouraged to get involved and support the week. To find out more, and to enquire about sponsorship opportunities on offer, visit www.facebook.com/cdcivicfest/
