Castle Douglas restaurant offers paid internship thanks to Galloway Glens

A Castle Douglas restaurant is offering a paid internship.

Mr Pook’s Kitchen has joined forces with Galloway Glens to offer the placement.

The successful applicant will get an excellent overview of a career in the hospitality sector with the role covering everything from preparing, cooking and presenting food through to sourcing ingredients from local suppliers and managing business finances.

Owner Ed Pook said: “I am looking forward to introducing you to the world of hospitality.

“There are many skills we need to put a plate nicely on a table and hopefully you can dive into our world and experience some of the highs and lows of restaurant life in our amazing corner of Scotland.

“Restaurant life is a unique opportunity to learn a whole host of skills which can be applicable in many walks of life.

“Getting a plate to a table involves a myriad of tiny details and we hope to be able to share our experience and skills with you here in the kitchen.

“We can offer up a range of work and life experiences in our little corner of Scotland away from the maddening crowds – direct contact with farmers, growers and purveyors of all the good things as well as local foraging, seasonal bounties and meeting some great characters along the way.

“We shall look forward to welcoming you to our kitchen.”

Applicants should submit a letter explaining why they are interested in the post, together with an up to date CV, to info@mrpooks.co.uk by February 10.

Galloway Glens education and engagement officer Jan Hogarth said: “This exciting internship at Mr Pook’s Kitchen is an incredible opportunity for a young person to learn from an innovative top-quality restaurant and find out more about sustainability and the art of cuisine.

“The internship is seeking enthusiastic and ambitious applicants who will make the most of this amazing opportunity for training and experience within the hospitality industry.”
