More than 20 people took the chance to have their blood pressure checked in Castle Douglas.
The town’s Rotary Club encouraged people to head to the Boots outlet in a bid to support the Stroke Association’s campaign raising awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure.
The club’s Keith Warford said: “Twenty one people had their blood pressure measured, one of whom was seriously high so we have done good for at least one person.

“We did it as a public awareness raising thing with the Stroke Association.

“It is important to be tested as it can be a sign of dangerous things such as strokes which, if they are caught early, helps limit the damaging effect.”

More than 70 per cent of people with high blood pressure have not had the condition diagnosed or treated which puts them at greater risk of stroke and other illnesses.
