Castle Douglas rainbow of hope beginning to take shape on King Street

A rainbow of hope is beginning to take shape in Castle Douglas.

The town’s community council is encouraging folk to paint stones in one of seven colours to be laid at the flower beds across from the roundabout at the top of King Street.

Secretary Kelly Patterson said: “The community council has funded the flowers to be planted in the last few years. Last year they were planted and there was also a Forward sign [the town’s motto].

“This year John the gardener planted it and there is also a Castle Douglas Stay Safe sign.

“Due to the current circumstances stones were going to be laid but I persuaded the chairman to let it be used for stones for a rainbow. It’s getting children and everybody involved and bringing the community together.”

A project to create a stone snake at the town’s primary school has more than 1,000 brightly coloured stones. However, progress at the rainbow has been a bit slower.

Kelly added: “i think it’s maybe because the snake has its own Facebook page and I’ve just been doing it off my own one, although I’ve also posted on the snake page just now.”

People are welcome to place their own stones but should take care not to damage the flowers and also be aware of the busy road.

They can also be given to Kelly to place.
