Castle Douglas Primary pupils take part in Fèis Rois youth music project

P4 and P4/5 pupils at Castle Douglas Primary have been taking part in the Fèis Rois youth music project.

The classes worked with local musician Grant Dinwoodie for 12 weeks, learning about traditional Scottish music, instruments and Gaelic.

Both classes worked towards producing a Clan Gatherin’ performance, where they shared what they had learned throughout the project.

The children had to decide on Clan names, P4 opting for Flying Heart Clan and P4/5 choosing Douglas Star Clan.

Families were invited to watch the Clan Gatherin’ performance and were entertained by highland dancing from Lacey, Sophie, Maisie, Harper and Anna, Scottish poetry read by Zac, Lucy playing the fiddle and Scots songs.

Each class learned their own song, with P4 singing Oor Wee Wean and P4/5 singing Jimmy Lost His Jarie – a very funny song which got the audience laughing.

The children closed the show with both classes singing The Gallowa’ Hills.

They thoroughly enjoyed working with Grant and Fèis Rois, having lots of fun learning about Scottish heritage.
