Castle Douglas Primary pupils launch own version of Children in Need to help foodbank

Big-hearted Castle Douglas Primary School pupils have launched their own local version of Children in Need.

Ongoing Covid-19 restrictions hit normal fundraising activities for the good cause.

But now the school has come up with a plan B to help local families instead.

Tomorrow pupils are being asked to bring in donations for the Stepping Stones – the town’s foodbank on King Street.

Head teacher David Tyson said: “Children in Need have been sending out a lot of material.

“But we felt that because we can’t do the usual stuff right now we would support our local community at this difficult time.

“It was the school’s idea.

“We are asking children to bring items until Monday which will be put in a box and quarantined for 72 hours.

“Then next Friday the pupils will take the items down to the foodbank.”

Mr Tyson added: “If the public would like to donate items they can bring them to the front of the school.

“There are plenty of food donations already.

“So we are looking for toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and shower gel.

“We would also appreciate donations of Christmas items such as crackers, mince pies and small items that could go in a stocking.”
