Castle Douglas mother and daughter to take on Virtual Kiltwalk for Food Train

A Castle Douglas mother and daughter will be taking part in the Virtual Kiltwalk for charity this weekend.

Primary school teacher Dawn Campbell and 17-year-old Martha will be walking 15 miles in and around the town to raise money for the Food Train.

Both will wear tartan as they take part in the event, with thousands of people across the country doing likewise for their own causes as coronavirus restrictions mean its not possible to have the mass Kiltwalk in Glasgow.

Dawn was inspired to raise money for the charity, which carries out food shopping trips for the elderly, after volunteering at the Stewartry branch in Castle Douglas.

She said: “I loved volunteering for Food Train during the first lockdown, helping people who could not leave home for their shopping.

“Food Train is a friendly face for so many providing a vital service in our community.

Dawn added: “I love walking and the outdoors so thought taking part in the Kiltwalk is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Food Train.”

Every penny they raise will be topped up by 50 per cent thanks to businessman Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation, who are supporting the Virtual Kiltwalk.

Between Friday and Sunday, kiltwalkers will take on a variety of socially distanced challenges including walking, running, cycling and even trampolining.
