Castle Douglas man braves the shave to raise money for Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes

A Castle Douglas man has braved the shave to raise money for charity.

Matt Mckerlie had his locks shorn off at New Image in the town.

And in the process he raised £660 for Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes – well above his £500 target.

Matt, one of the organisers of the town’s Soap Box Derby, said: “I’m certainly colder.

“I raised £660, a great amount, especially at this time of year as it’s maybe not the best time to do fundraising.

“The Blood Bikes people say it will keep them going for nearly a week. They have been supportive of the soap box derby and it’s good to give something back as they can be the difference between life and death.

“It’s a new year and a new look for myself – I’m not sure if I’ll keep it but you can’t fight a receding hairline.”

Matt, who is an engineer for Openreach, also raised funds by taking part in the Dee Dip at Crossmichael on New Year’s Day.
