Castle Douglas house to open gardens to the public for charity

There is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an afternoon at Kings Grange House, near Castle Douglas, on Sunday when the garden will be open under Scotland’s Gardens Scheme to raise funds for charity.

There will be performances by the Kings Grange Singers and Solway Rhythm Aces Jazz Band to enhance the enjoyment of the garden and homemade cream teas will be available.

Jack Wilson and his Jazz Band will play throughout the afternoon and during intervals the King’s Grange Singers will perform under the joint directorship of Rosemary White and Christine Hickman.

Christine formed the choir eight years ago whilst teaching at Hardgate School, since then they have performed with Dumfries Male Voice Choir at the Royal Albert Hall.

The choir kept going through virtual means during the pandemic and is gradually returning to pre-covid numbers with new members always welcome. It will be a fun and joyous programme of music to enjoy whilst exploring the garden.

Kings Grange has an extensive garden surrounded by mature trees and shrubberies, with views to the south west over the surrounding countryside. Originally Victorian, the garden is being restored by the present owners with a colourful variety of herbaceous mixed borders, beds and rockeries mainly to the front of the house.

The gardens are open from 2pm until 5pm, admission is £5 (children free) and the gardens are also open by arrangement until August 13. Proceeds will go to the RNLI, Marie Curie and Scotland’s Gardens Scheme charities.

Directions: Take B794 north off the A75, two miles east of Castle Douglas. Kings Grange House (DG7 3EU) is approximately one mile on the left. For further information on the opening please visit www.scotlandsgardens.org
