Castle Douglas High School celebrates the awards of S1 to S3 pupils

Awards celebrating the achievements of S1-S3 pupils at Castle Douglas High School were made recently.

Addressing a very busy assembly hall, head teacher James Smith said every awards ceremony was special for those taking part and to publicly acknowledge the pupils’ successes and accomplishments.

Mr Smith went on to congratulate the year groups for their part in such a successful time at the school and for the excellent impression they gave Education Scotland inspectors during their recent visit.

Mr Smith said it was “fantastic” the inspection team had highlighted the young people’s contribution, noting their observation of “confident, articulate and respectful young people who are keen to learn and exhibit a sense of pride in their school.”

Ex-pupil and local businesswoman Mrs Vicki McConchie, who co-owns Laggan Outdoor, addressed the assembly.

Drawing on the school’s values of compassion, determination, honesty, self-belief, respect and resilience, Mrs McConchie described her journey from fashion student to business owner.

In her concluding remarks she urged the young people to live up to the values of the school – because they would bring them success in adult life.
